Ethereum’s Dencun upgrade: EIP-7514 and its impact on ETH price

Image
Ethereum core developers have included EIP-7514 in the upcoming Dencun upgrade . This proposal slows the growing ETH staking while allowing developers to explore long-term solutions for unchecked staking. EIP-7514 is an Ethereum Improvement Proposal co-authored by Tim Beiko and Dapplion that is meant to slow down the rate of Ether (ETH) staking.  The proposal is part of Ethereum’s Dencun upgrade slated for activation in October 2023, and it is essentially an attempt to buy the community time to come up with a more practical reward scheme for stakers on the network. Next up, we continued a conversation from last week's ACDC call, about whether to add a constant cap to the validator activation queue. The proposal had since then been formalized as EIP-7514: https://t.co/sd4D4GlMRY — timbeiko.eth ️ (@TimBeiko) September 14, 2023 According to some Ethereum developers, if the pace of staking remains unchecked, it will be possible to witness half of all ETH staked by May 2024,...

Shibarium executive issues strong warning about exploitation risks

Shiba Inu’s marketing strategist Lucie has offered instructions to help users reduce the risk of encountering phishing links and fraudulent schemes when using Shibarium. Lucie, Shiba Inu’s marketing specialist, has cautioned the public against potential exploit ation risks on Shibarium, the newly-released Ethereum layer-2 scaling protocol. According to a post by the executive on X (formerly Twitter), Shibarium is accessible for development by anyone, similar to other blockchains like Polygon and Ethereum. However, this openness also makes it vulnerable to potential attacks. Malicious entities could exploit the platform to target decentralized applications constructed on the layer-2 network or deploy fraudulent rug pull tokens. Users should exercise caution and remain vigilant, as some exploit ers might even utilize the Shibarium name in their scam project titles, Lucie highlighted. Similar to Polygon, Ethereum, and other blockchains, Shibarium is open for anyone to build on. Regret...

SEC’s Crypto Conflicts Exposed, Ethereum Favoured After a two-year ordeal involving FOIA requests, court cases, and new document disclosures, the SEC has at last provided new information in answer to Empower Oversight’s relentless questions. The new materials underscore the pivotal role played by Joseph Lubin and his company, Consensys, in influencing former SEC Director of Corporation Finance William Hinman’s perspectives and objectives behind his contentious June 14, 2018 cryptocurrency speech. Lubin, a prominent advocate of Ether (ETH), was instrumental in connecting Hinman with Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin during the drafting of the speech. advertisement Notably, individuals closely associated with Ethereum were prominently featured in a March 28, 2018 meeting discussing a crypto safe harbor proposal, suggesting a degree of involvement beyond what was previously known. The shocking evidence, of Lubin’s important contribution to Hinm...

Here's how developers aim to store crypto inside NFTs

Image
From being an inventory system for gaming to being used in DAOs, Future Primitive’s Jayden Windle and Benny Giang spoke about use cases for ERC-6551. Developers have recently published an Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) that introduces a new way to use nonfungible tokens (NFTs). With this system, all NFTs can have a smart contract account, allowing them to store other NFTs or crypto tokens.  Cointelegraph spoke with Future Primitive’s Jayden Windle and Benny Giang, the authors of EIP-6551, to explain the use cases of ERC-6551 and its implications for the crypto space. Jayden Windle and Benny Giang explains ERC-6551. Source: Cointelegraph  According to Windle, while there are a lot of complicated workings behind the feature, the simple way to explain it is that they are giving NFTs their own crypto wallets. He explained: “The real simple idea behind the ERC-6551 is that every NFT has a wallet. So, your NFT has a full wallet that your NFT owns. That means your NFT can own any asse...

Ethereum price is pinned below $1.9K, and data suggests that is unlikely to change in the short–term

Image
3 key indicators are behind the prolonged bearish trend in Ether, and data fails to identify an immediate catalyst for a price breakout. Ether’s price has been stuck below $1,920 for the past 16 days, which is especially concerning since the latest breakout attempt on May 6 lasted less than 24 hours. Excluding this brief price pump, Ether’s (ETH) journey below $1,920 was initiated on April 21, over 30 days ago. One can likely blame the Ethereum network’s $8.80 average transaction fee for investors’ diminished appetite, but the macroeconomic environment has also played an important role. On May 22, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said it is impossible to predict the outcome of the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy, designed to curb inflation. As CNN reported, Dimon added: “You’re already seeing credit tighten up because the easiest way for a bank to retain capital is not to make the next loan." The uncertainty surrounding the United States debt ceiling standoff between Joe Biden’...

Vitalik Buterin warns against overloading Ethereum consensus

Buterin has advocated preserving Ethereum consensus minimalism and not overloading validators with other things. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has published a lengthy blog post warning of the dangers of “stretching” Ethereum's consensus past its core functions of validating blocks and securing the network.  Ethereum consensus is the process whereby blocks are validated by the proof-of-stake mechanism implemented in September 2022 with “the Merge.” In a May 21 blog post titled “Don’t overload Ethereum’s consensus,” Buterin warned that using Ethereum’s network consensus for other things could bring “high systemic risks to the ecosystem and should be discouraged and resisted.” The Ethereum co-founder was essentially promoting the preservation of the blockchain’s minimalism. Symbiosis integrates zkSync: ‘Natural evolution' of scaling solutions

Cross-chain DeFi platform Symbiosis has integrated zkSync to improve transaction speed and reduce fees on its automated market-making protocol. Cross-chain automated marker maker Symbiosis has onboarded layer-2 scaling protocol zkSync to improve speed and reduce fees of token swaps on its platform. The decentralized exchange (DEX) was launched in March 2022. It provides single-sided stablecoin pools that deliver zero impermanent loss to liquid providers. It also facilitates ‘any-to-any’ native asset swaps on its platform across Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and non-EVM networks. Nick Avramov, co-founder of Symbiosis, told Cointelegraph that the integration of zkSync will provide one-click swaps from Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, BNB, Telos and other blockchains into zkSync and back. The additional functionality also removes the need for users to switch between different wallets and interfaces. Avramov also confirmed that the integration improves the variety of token swaps through it...

Forget HTTP: Ethereum has a new URL standard that can't be blocked

Image
Under a newly rolled out Ethereum standard, DApps and NFTs can be accessed by internet users without the worry of centralized censorship. Web3 URLs — enabled with the launch of ERC-4804 — have made it onto Ethereum, allowing internet users to access Ethereum apps and NFTs without worrying about centralized censorship. The new Ethereum standard, titled “Web3 URL to EVM Call Message Translation,” was first proposed on Feb. 14, 2022, and was co-authored by ETHStorage founder Qi Zhou, Ethereum researcher Sam Wilson and Chao Pi. It described the proposal as an “HTTP-style” URL to directly access on-chain Web3 content, such as decentralized apps (DApps) front-ends and NFTs. More than a year later, ERC-4804 was approved and finalized on the mainnet on March 1. 1/n, I am delighted to announce that the first web access protocol for ETH ERC4804: Web3 URL is approved by EIP editors and finalized! web3:// (https://t.co/uXpTGdXirF) is decentralized //. Do 'Ethereum killers' have a future? Here's what the crypto community says

Image
While many of the arguments support Ethereum, some argue that things can still go south for the network. Repeated outages of one of the most popular blockchains believed to have the potential to dethrone the Ethereum network sparked a conversation among community members about the future of those carrying the burden of being called an “Ethereum killer.”  A member of the cryptocurrency forum on Reddit opened a conversation on Ethereum killers and questioned their ability to succeed in the current crypto space. According to the community member, those dubbed as Ethereum killers are not likely to succeed because they do not get the same adoption that Ethereum does. In addition, the community member argued that even if a chain becomes faster than Ethereum, the market capitalization of Ether (ETH) is very high. Therefore, the crypto user believes that “no ETH killer will actually kill ETH.” Various members of the community chimed in and gave their thoughts on the issue. From pointing ...
